Presentation of Proposals for Measham Wharf by Tim Farley, Copesticks Town Planning.
A presentation was given for the proposed Wharf Development from the Picture Bar, off the High Street and to include development up to the A42. Residential development would take place on a 40 acre site closest to the A42, 30% of the area would be green space in keeping with the National Forest. Access would be gained from Burton Road with a roundabout put in for safe access onto the development. A noise attenuation bund would be continued along the side of the A42. A variety of high quality canal side properties along with family orientated homes would be built and the development is to also include 30% of social housing.

There is the option to develop the open space to the rear of the Leisure Centre, upgrades and improvements to the Centre could be considered to provide a better facility although consent would be needed to include the area in the proposal.

The Wharf development would include the refurbishment of the Timms Hardware store which is a listed building, a public/market square, mixed use commercial units, and berths for 8-12 boats, there would be limited parking at the development, it would be an attractive open landscaped area for Measham. A family friendly pub would also be considered.
The outline planning application for the 40 acre development site to include the open space could be submitted by the end of October, the Wharf is a more detailed application due to it including a listed building and could be submitted by the end of November, the watered section would be placed first along with the artery road as without these the development couldn’t take place and a possible completion date for the watered section would be Spring 2014.

Resolved: Concerns were raised over the access of lorries to the development; the group were invited to attend the Leisure Centre Management Committee meeting on the 20th September to give a brief presentation regarding the use of the area as open space.
